This guided relaxation script is designed for meditation professionals to use with children, helping them cultivate calmness, focus, and emotional balance. It provides a structured framework for gently guiding young clients through mindful breathing, body awareness, and imaginative visualization, allowing them to safely explore feelings of relaxation, safety, and inner peace.
The language is soft, playful, and engaging, encouraging children to connect with their bodies and imaginations while letting go of tension or restlessness. This script helps children develop mindfulness skills they can carry into everyday life, fostering a sense of security, focus, and emotional regulation.
Let’s get started.
Guided Relaxation Script for Kids:
Have the children find a comfortable position, either sitting or lying down, and encourage them to gently close their eyes if they feel safe doing so. Begin by taking a slow, deep breath in through the nose… and softly releasing it through the mouth.
Let them notice the gentle rhythm of their breath as it flows in and out, like gentle waves coming to shore and retreating again. Invite them to take another deep breath, filling their bellies like a big, soft balloon… and slowly breathe out, letting any tension drift away.
Now, invite the children to imagine holding a small, colorful balloon in their hands. As they breathe in, the balloon fills slowly with air, growing bigger and brighter… and as they breathe out, the balloon floats gently upward into the sky, taking with it any worries, restless thoughts, or busy feelings. Encourage them to watch the balloon rise higher and higher, drifting peacefully among the clouds.
Next, guide the children to bring their attention to their bodies, starting with their toes. Ask them to wiggle their toes gently, and then let them become still and relaxed… their feet feeling soft, warm, and heavy… their ankles letting go of any tension… their legs becoming light, calm, and peaceful.
Slowly move their attention to their tummies, noticing how the breath moves in and out… their bellies softening with each exhale… their chest rising and falling gently, like a calm, quiet ocean.
Invite the children to notice their hands and arms. They can make little circles with their wrists if they like, and then let their hands rest softly, arms feeling loose and relaxed… their shoulders melting down, releasing anything they’ve been holding. Now, ask them to bring attention to their neck and face… letting their jaw relax… their cheeks soft… and their eyes resting gently in their sockets.
Encourage them to visualize a warm, glowing light beginning at the top of their head. This light is gentle, golden, and soft, like morning sunlight shining through a window. It slowly moves down… touching the forehead, eyes, and cheeks… traveling to the neck, shoulders, and arms… spreading warmth and calmness everywhere it flows.
It moves down the chest, into the tummy, across the back, and down each leg, all the way to their toes. This light brings safety, happiness, and a gentle, peaceful calm to every part of their body.
Now, invite them to imagine stepping into a magical forest. The air is soft and warm, filled with the gentle sounds of birds singing and leaves rustling in the breeze. Tiny sunbeams peek through the branches, casting a golden glow on the ground.
As they walk along a soft path, they feel the gentle crunch of leaves under their feet and notice the sweet, fresh scent of flowers and pine. Every step they take makes them feel calmer and lighter.
Encourage them to notice all the little details around them—the colors of the flowers, the shapes of the leaves, the way sunlight dances on the forest floor. Maybe they see a friendly butterfly or a little rabbit hopping nearby.
Invite them to take a slow breath in, imagining they are breathing in the calmness and beauty of this peaceful forest, and slowly breathe out, letting go of any stress, worries, or busy thoughts.
Guide them to find a soft, cozy place in the forest—a patch of moss, a gentle hill, or a sunny spot under a tree. They can lie down or sit comfortably here. Feel the ground supporting their body… the air brushing softly against their skin… the warmth of the sun or gentle shade wrapping them in comfort. Encourage them to let their imaginations wander safely, exploring this magical place while feeling grounded and protected.
Invite them to imagine a friendly animal or magical creature joining them—a small bird, a deer, or even a gentle dragon. This companion sits or lies nearby, offering calm and friendship. Together, they notice the sounds of the forest, the rustle of leaves, the soft hum of life around them.
Encourage them to take a deep breath in, filling themselves with calm and happiness… and slowly breathe out, letting go of any tension or heaviness.
Now, guide them to bring their attention back to their own bodies, noticing how relaxed and peaceful they feel. Ask them to feel their toes, legs, belly, chest, arms, hands, shoulders, neck, and head—all soft, calm, and relaxed.
Remind them that they can carry this peaceful feeling with them anytime they want, simply by imagining their glowing balloon, their magical forest, or their friendly companion.
Encourage them to take one final, slow, deep breath in… and gently breathe out, noticing their body fully at rest. Ask them to wiggle their fingers and toes softly, stretch their arms and legs a little, and slowly open their eyes when they are ready, carrying with them the calm, safety, and happiness they’ve discovered in this session.
