Primary Blog/Guided Imagery for Nausea Relief: Calm Your Stomach, Ease Discomfort, and Restore Balance

This guided imagery session script is designed specifically for meditation professionals to use with clients experiencing nausea, whether from illness, digestive discomfort, or motion. The purpose of this session is to provide a gentle, supportive pathway to ease queasiness, calm the stomach, and restore a sense of balance and comfort in the body.

This script encourages a safe and nurturing mental space where discomfort can be acknowledged without resistance, allowing the body’s natural capacity to restore balance to be supported. By guiding clients with clear, compassionate instructions, you can help them reduce the intensity of nausea, foster relaxation, and cultivate a sense of inner calm that can continue beyond the session.

Let's get started.

Guided Imagery for Nausea Relief:

Invite your client to find a comfortable position, either seated with a straight but relaxed spine or lying down in a way that allows the breath to flow naturally.

Encourage them to allow their shoulders to soften, their jaw to release any tightness, and their hands to rest gently in their lap or by their sides.

Remind them that this is a safe and nurturing space where they can simply be present with their body, noticing sensations without judgment or expectation.

Encourage them to take a moment to feel the points of contact between their body and the surface beneath them—the weight of their body grounding them, the support of the floor or chair holding them safely.

Guide them to take a slow, deep breath in through the nose, feeling the air gently expand the chest and abdomen, and exhale fully, releasing tension, tightness, or any unnecessary effort in the body.

Allow them to take a few breaths in this way, feeling the natural rhythm of their body and the comforting rise and fall of the breath.

Remind them that with each inhale they are inviting calm and ease, and with each exhale they are allowing discomfort, worry, or tension to gently drift away.

Encourage a rhythm of calm, intentional breathing, helping the body and mind to settle into a state of ease and openness.

Invite your client to gently bring attention to the stomach and digestive area, observing any sensations of nausea, heaviness, or discomfort without trying to push them away.

Encourage them to acknowledge these sensations as natural signals from the body, responding with curiosity and compassion rather than judgment.

Guide them to imagine a warm, soothing light beginning to spread slowly from the center of the abdomen, radiating outward, softening tension, and bringing a sense of gentle ease.

As the light spreads, it may feel like a gentle wave or a soft, warm mist that moves across the stomach and chest, calming and restoring balance.

Encourage them to stay with this imagery, noticing any subtle shifts or relief that emerge naturally, and remind them that even the smallest easing of tension is meaningful.

Now, guide your client to create a serene mental space where they feel safe and completely at ease. This could be a quiet beach where gentle waves lap rhythmically against the shore, a soft meadow with a warm breeze and the scent of flowers in the air, or a peaceful forest with sunlight filtering softly through the leaves.

Encourage them to fully immerse themselves in this environment—notice the textures, the colors, the sounds, and the gentle movement around them.

Suggest that they imagine the sensations of nausea lifting, carried away by the wind, waves, or sunlight, replaced gradually by a sense of lightness, comfort, and calm.

Invite them to explore the sensations of being fully supported, grounded, and safe in this space, feeling the body relaxing more deeply with every breath.

Invite your client to visualize gentle, cooling, or soothing sensations moving through the stomach and chest, like a refreshing wave or a soft breeze that brings calm and ease.

Encourage them to explore additional comforting imagery, such as imagining sipping a cool, refreshing beverage, feeling soft fabrics brushing the skin, or noticing a comforting scent that brings relaxation.

Remind them that the mind and body can work together to create comfort, and that this is a moment for kindness and care toward themselves.

Guide them to take another deep breath in, slowly filling the lungs, and exhale fully, releasing any lingering tension in the stomach, shoulders, jaw, or elsewhere.

Encourage them to feel a growing sense of comfort and lightness as each breath allows more space for ease and balance.

Invite them to notice a sense of gratitude for the body’s ability to respond to calm, gentle guidance, and for the moments of relief that are gradually emerging.

Encourage your client to take several final, slow, mindful breaths, feeling how the body now feels lighter, calmer, and more at ease.

Suggest that they imagine carrying this sense of comfort with them beyond the session, knowing that they can return to this visualization or the gentle breathing exercises whenever nausea arises.

Reinforce that this session is a supportive tool, helping them cultivate inner calm and physical ease, and that the body is naturally capable of restoring balance with gentle, consistent attention.

As the session comes to a close, invite them to remain in this state of gentle awareness for as long as they wish, feeling nurtured, safe, and supported in every breath, and to carry this sense of calm and comfort into the rest of their day.
