This guided breathing meditation script is designed for children and can be used by meditation professionals to help young clients develop calm, focus, and emotional balance. The session encourages children to connect with their breath, engage their imagination, and experience gentle relaxation in a safe and supportive way. The script uses playful imagery, mindful breathing cues, and body awareness exercises to help children feel grounded, joyful, and at ease.
Let’s get started.
Breathing Meditation Script for Kids:
Invite your young clients to find a comfortable position, whether sitting on a chair, cross-legged on the floor, or lying on their back. Encourage them to feel fully supported, letting their bodies settle naturally and comfortably. Ask them to gently close their eyes if they feel safe doing so and begin to notice how their bodies feel.
Encourage them to feel their hands resting softly on their laps or beside them, their feet touching the floor or mat, and their spine naturally tall yet relaxed. Allow a few moments for them to settle fully into the present, giving their busy thoughts a chance to soften and fade, and helping them feel grounded, calm, and safe.
Guide the children to place one hand gently on their tummy, explaining that their tummy is like a little balloon that inflates when they breathe in and deflates as they breathe out. Invite them to take slow, deep breaths in through the nose and breathe out gently through the mouth.
Encourage them to notice the rise and fall of the tummy and how each breath helps their body relax a little more. Give them time to breathe mindfully for a few rounds, noticing how this simple awareness of the breath brings calm and ease.
Now, ask the children to imagine a colorful, glowing balloon inside their tummy. With each inhale, the balloon grows bigger and brighter, filled with warmth, light, and energy. With each exhale, it gently shrinks, releasing tension, worries, or any heavy feelings that may be lingering.
Encourage them to continue breathing in this way, noticing the movement of the balloon and how each breath makes their body feel lighter, calmer, and more relaxed. Invite the children to bring playful imagination into the session by picturing a smiley face on their favorite toy or an imaginary animal friend.
As they breathe in, imagine the smile growing wider and brighter, and as they breathe out, feel that happiness spreading through their body—into the chest, arms, legs, hands, and even toes. This visualization allows children to connect their breath with positive emotions, creating a sense of joy, safety, and lightness.
Encourage children to explore their body with gentle awareness. Ask them to notice their shoulders softening, hands becoming relaxed, and feet grounding into the floor or mat. Guide them to sense how their back feels supported, their head resting gently, and how each breath brings more calm and stillness.
Gently remind them that if their thoughts wander, they can always return to their breathing, their balloon, and their smile. Each breath is an opportunity to feel calm, happy, and safe, and each exhale is a chance to release tension and worries.
Bring their attention back to the balloon and guide them to take one last deep breath in, imagining the balloon filling completely with warm, bright light. Then breathe out slowly, letting the balloon shrink gently and release any remaining tension.
Invite them to wiggle their fingers and toes, feeling the energy and calm moving through their body. When they are ready, they can gently open their eyes, noticing how calm, happy, and light they feel. Pause for a few moments of silence to let them absorb this peaceful state, reminding them that they can carry this calm and happiness with them throughout the day.
Finally, encourage them to remember their balloon and their smile whenever they feel restless, worried, or overwhelmed, and to return to this gentle breathing practice whenever they need calm, focus, or joy.
