This guided meditation script is designed to support clients engaged in 12-step recovery, specifically those working with Step 11: Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.

The script offers a structured, contemplative space where clients can quiet the mind, connect with their Higher Power, and listen inwardly for guidance. Whether you're using this with individuals or in group sessions, it supports the development of spiritual awareness and the practice of inner listening.

Let’s get started.

11th Step Guided Meditation Script:

Begin by finding a quiet, peaceful space where you can rest without distraction. This is your time—time to reconnect, to release, and to receive. Choose a position that supports both comfort and alertness.

You might be sitting upright in a chair with your feet grounded and hands resting gently in your lap, or perhaps lying down with your arms at your sides and your spine long and relaxed. Take a moment to adjust your posture, allowing your body to feel supported by the earth beneath you.

Now gently close your eyes. Let your eyelids fall softly, as if they’re growing heavier with each passing breath. Begin to turn your attention inward. Slowly and deeply, inhale through your nose… filling your lungs with breath, with life… and exhale gently through your mouth, letting go of any tension in your face, your shoulders, your chest.

Take another long, full breath in. And as you exhale, feel yourself dropping into this moment. Into presence. Into peace. With every breath, feel yourself arriving more completely. More safely. More calmly into this space of stillness.

With the next few breaths, allow yourself to release anything you’ve been carrying from earlier today. Release the mental noise, the emotional weight, the physical tension. Let the breath do the work for you. Inhale peace... and exhale anything that no longer serves you.

Inhale light... and exhale heaviness. Let go of the to-do lists, the worries, the responsibilities. There’s nowhere else you need to be. Nothing you need to fix or figure out. This is your sacred pause.

Now allow your breath to settle into a smooth, natural rhythm. Just observe. Don’t control it. Feel the gentle rise and fall of your chest. The quiet sound of air flowing in and out.

Let your awareness rest here, on the breath. Like a wave that flows in… and flows out… again and again. You are safe here. Held. Supported. Grounded.

As your body continues to soften, bring your awareness to your heart center—the space in the middle of your chest. Imagine a soft, warm light glowing there. It might be golden, white, or any color that feels comforting to you.

With each inhale, imagine this light expanding. With each exhale, feel it washing away stress or fear. Let it radiate warmth, compassion, and clarity throughout your entire being.

Now, silently speak the sacred words of the Eleventh Step to yourself. Not as a rule, but as a prayer. As a heart offering.

“Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.”

Let those words echo softly through your body. Feel their meaning resonate—not just in your mind, but in your soul. Don’t rush. Just let the phrase flow over you like water, allowing it to settle into every cell. This is your intention. This is your anchor.

From this place of stillness, ask gently, quietly, sincerely:

“What is Your will for me today?”

Ask this question from your heart. Not with urgency. Not with pressure. Simply with openness. You may hear something. You may feel something. Or you may simply sense stillness.

Whatever comes—trust it. If you receive silence, let it be a sacred silence. Know that divine communication doesn’t always come in words. It can come in energy. In clarity. In peace.

Now ask:

“Please grant me the power to carry out Your will.”

Feel these words move through your body, like a gentle current of strength. Maybe you feel a subtle shift in your energy. A lifting of heaviness. A sense of courage, or calm, or confidence. Let that become your prayer. Let it rise in you. Let yourself be filled with divine strength. Let your breath carry it deep into your being.

If your mind drifts, that’s completely okay. Just notice, and with kindness, gently return to the breath. Return to the intention. Inhaling connection… exhaling surrender. Inhaling trust… exhaling fear. Let the rhythm of the breath remind you of your relationship with something greater than yourself.

Feel into the truth: you are never alone. You are part of something infinite and loving. You are surrounded by grace. Held in divine presence. Carried by your Higher Power—even in the quiet moments, even when you forget. Right now, in this breath, you are deeply connected.

Take this time now to simply rest in that connection. Let your Higher Power speak through stillness. Through the breath. Through the silence between words. You don’t need to do anything. Just be here. Receptive. Open. Willing.

Now begin to slowly return to the space around you. No rush. No urgency. Gently notice the feeling of the surface beneath you. The air on your skin. Begin to move your fingers. Your toes. Maybe roll your shoulders. Wiggle gently. Stretch if that feels right.

Take one more deep, grounding breath in… feeling the fullness of this moment… and then slowly release it, letting go with ease.

When you feel ready, gently open your eyes.

Notice how you feel. Notice the stillness you’re carrying. The connection. The clarity. Let it stay with you as you move forward. Let it guide your words, your actions, your choices today.

​You can return to this space—this practice—anytime you need. The stillness is always available to you. Your Higher Power is always present. You are never alone.
