Some of the most useful meditations are the ones that fit inside an ordinary day. This 7 minute guided meditation script is designed for meditation teachers, coaches, therapists, yoga instructors and wellness professionals who want a short, complete practice they can offer in the middle of a session, at the start of a workshop or as a calm break between busy commitments. In about seven minutes, it takes your clients from scattered attention to a softer, steadier state, using slow breathing, gentle body awareness and a simple visualization of setting down what they have been carrying.
You can use this script one on one, with small groups or in a recorded audio for clients to return to at home. It works well midday, when energy dips and tension quietly builds in the shoulders, jaw and mind, and it is short enough to repeat daily without feeling like a big commitment. The script below is written to be read aloud, word for word, directly to your clients. Read slowly, let the pauses breathe and allow your own voice to soften as you go, and the timing will settle naturally at around seven minutes.
Let’s get started.
7 Minute Guided Meditation Script:
Welcome. For the next few minutes, there is nowhere else you need to be and nothing else you need to do.
Find a position that feels comfortable and supported. You might be sitting in a chair with your feet resting on the floor, or lying down with your arms by your sides. Let your hands rest wherever they feel natural.
If it feels right, gently close your eyes. Or, if you prefer, lower your gaze to a quiet spot on the floor in front of you.
(Pause)
Begin by simply noticing that you are here. Feel the weight of your body being held by the chair, the cushion or the floor beneath you. You don’t have to hold yourself up right now. Let the ground do that work for you.
(Pause)
Now bring your attention to your breath. Don’t change it yet. Just notice it. Notice the air moving in through your nose and the gentle rise of your chest or belly. Notice the air moving out again.
(Pause for several breaths)
Now let’s slow the breath down together. Breathe in slowly through your nose for a count of four… one… two… three… four.
Hold the breath gently at the top… one… two.
And breathe out slowly through your mouth for a count of six… one… two… three… four… five… six.
Again, breathe in… two… three… four.
Pause… two.
And breathe out… two… three… four… five… six.
One more time, in… two… three… four.
Pause… two.
And out… two… three… four… five… six.
Now let your breath return to its own natural rhythm. Notice how it feels a little slower, a little softer than before.
(Pause)
Let’s gently move through the body, releasing any tension you may have gathered so far today.
Bring your awareness to your forehead. Let it smooth and soften. Let the small muscles around your eyes relax.
Notice your jaw. If your teeth are pressed together, let them part slightly. Let your tongue rest softly in your mouth.
(Pause)
Now notice your shoulders. So much of the day can collect here. As you breathe out, let your shoulders drop, just a little, away from your ears. Breathe out again and let them drop a little more.
Let that softness travel down your arms, through your elbows and wrists, all the way to your fingertips. Let your hands feel heavy and still.
(Pause)
Bring your attention to your chest and belly. With each breath in, feel this area gently expand. With each breath out, feel it settle and soften.
Let your lower back release into the support beneath you. Let your hips feel heavy. Let your legs relax, from your thighs, through your knees, down to your feet.
Your whole body is resting now. Nothing to fix. Nothing to hold.
(Pause for several breaths)
Now imagine that you have been carrying a bag with you all day. It might be light, or it might feel quite heavy. Inside it are the things that have been sitting on your mind… the conversations, the to-do list, the small worries, the things still waiting to be done.
You don’t need to look inside the bag. You don’t need to sort anything out right now.
Just notice how it feels to carry it.
(Pause)
Now picture a quiet, safe place in front of you where you can set this bag down. It might be a wooden bench, a soft patch of grass or a simple table in a calm, sunlit room.
As you breathe in, feel the weight of the bag in your hands.
And as you breathe out, slowly set it down.
(Pause)
Notice the feeling of your hands being empty. Notice your arms and shoulders, lighter now. The bag is still there. You can pick it up again later, whenever you choose. But for this moment, you are free to rest without it.
(Pause for several breaths)
In this lighter space, let a few calm words gently settle in your mind. You can repeat them silently with me.
I can set things down.
I can come back to my breath.
I have enough time for this moment.
(Pause)
Let these words rest with you. There is no need to believe them completely. Simply let them be here, like a soft light in the room.
(Pause for several breaths)
Now take a moment to notice how you feel. Notice your breath, your body, your mind. Perhaps something has eased, even a little. Perhaps you feel more spacious, more settled, more clear.
Whatever you notice is welcome. You can remember this feeling and return to it anytime you need a short pause, simply by slowing your breath and imagining yourself setting the bag down.
(Pause)
Now, gently begin to return. Take a slightly deeper breath in, and let it go.
Start to bring small movements back into your body. Wiggle your fingers and toes. Roll your shoulders slowly. If it feels good, take a gentle stretch.
Notice the sounds around you and the space you are in.
(Pause)
When you are ready, slowly open your eyes and let them rest softly on the room around you.
Take this calm with you into the rest of your day. You have everything you need for the next step.
Thank you for taking this time for yourself.
Tips for Facilitators
Read a little slower than feels natural. Short scripts can feel rushed, and the pauses are where most of the settling happens.
Offer the bag visualization as an invitation, not a task. Some clients will picture it clearly, while others will simply feel the idea, and both are perfectly fine.
Use this script at the same time each day or each session for a week. Repetition helps clients learn to reach that calmer state more easily on their own.
