Some clients arrive at a session with only a few minutes to spare, and others simply aren’t ready yet for a long sit. This 4 minute guided meditation script is made for those moments. It works well at the start of a coaching call, between activities in a workshop, at the close of a yoga class, or as a short reset for anyone who feels scattered and needs to land back in their body before the next part of the day. Because it is brief and uses plain, everyday language, it also suits newer meditators, busy professionals, and groups with mixed experience levels who may feel unsure about longer practices.
In just four minutes, the practice moves through settling, a few steadying breaths, a soft release of tension from head to toe, and a simple image of setting down what feels heavy. The script below is written to be read aloud, word for word, directly to your clients. Read it slowly, with a warm and unhurried voice, and let the pauses be real pauses. At a gentle pace with the suggested pauses, it takes about four minutes from start to finish. You can use it as a stand-alone practice, as a warm-up before deeper work, or as a calm closing ritual that helps clients leave your session feeling a little lighter than when they arrived.
Let’s get started.
4 Minute Guided Meditation Script:
Welcome. For the next four minutes, there is nothing you need to do and nowhere you need to be. This time is simply for you.
Find a comfortable position, sitting or lying down. Let your hands rest wherever they feel easy. If it feels right, gently close your eyes, or let your gaze soften toward the floor in front of you.
(Pause)
Take a slow breath in through your nose… and let it go through your mouth with a quiet sigh.
Once more, breathe in… and breathe out, letting the breath leave a little more slowly this time.
(Pause)
Now let your breathing return to its own natural rhythm. You don’t need to change it. Just notice the air moving in… and the air moving out. Notice the gentle rise of your chest or your belly, and the soft fall as you exhale.
(Pause for several breaths)
Let’s take a short journey through the body, softening as we go.
Bring your attention to your forehead. Let it smooth out, as if a warm hand is resting there. Let your eyes grow heavy and still. Unclench your jaw, and let your tongue rest gently in your mouth.
(Pause)
Let your shoulders drop away from your ears. Feel them soften, just a little more with each breath out. Let that softness flow down your arms, through your elbows and wrists, all the way to your fingertips.
(Pause)
Feel your chest and belly rise and fall. Let your back settle into whatever is supporting you. Let your hips grow heavy, and feel the weight of your legs releasing down through your knees, your ankles and your feet.
(Pause)
You are held. Whatever is beneath you is supporting you completely, so you can let go of holding yourself up.
(Pause for several breaths)
Now imagine that you are carrying a small bag or bundle in your arms. It holds whatever has felt heavy today. Perhaps a worry, a long list of tasks, a conversation that is still on your mind, or simply a sense of rushing. You don’t need to name everything inside it. Just notice its weight.
(Pause)
Picture yourself gently setting this bundle down on the ground beside you. It is safe there. You can pick it up again later if you need to. But for these few moments, your arms are free.
Feel how your shoulders and your hands respond as the weight leaves them. Notice the lightness. Notice the space.
(Pause)
Breathe in, and imagine fresh, calm energy filling that space. Breathe out, and let a little more tension melt away.
Breathe in calm… breathe out heaviness.
(Pause for several breaths)
Rest here for a moment in this lighter, quieter place. There is nothing to fix and nothing to figure out. Just this breath, and then the next one.
(Pause)
As we begin to close, silently offer yourself a simple phrase. You might say, “I can take this one moment at a time,” or “I am allowed to rest.” Let the words settle gently into your body.
(Pause)
Now start to bring your awareness back to the room around you. Notice the sounds near you and far away. Feel the surface beneath you and the air on your skin.
Let your fingers and toes move a little. Perhaps roll your shoulders, or take a gentle stretch in whatever way feels good.
(Pause)
Take one more full breath in… and let it go.
When you’re ready, slowly open your eyes. Carry this calm, steady feeling with you into the rest of your day, knowing you can return to it whenever you need just a few minutes to reset.
Tips for Facilitators
Read a little slower than feels natural. Short scripts can feel rushed, and the pauses are where much of the settling happens. A quiet timer or a soft chime at the end can help you keep to four minutes without watching the clock.
If you have less than four minutes, shorten the body scan to the face and shoulders and keep the image of setting the bundle down. If you have a little more time, simply lengthen the pauses rather than adding new instructions.
Before you begin, you can offer clients a few closing phrases to choose from so the words feel personal and are easy to recall later. Afterward, a brief moment of quiet, or a single question about how they feel now, helps the calm settle before you move on.
